PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

6/93 - Present
Private Consultant
After the computer stores were sold I was hired by several different companies to set up new computer systems, improve existing systems, or to maintain systems. In recent years, I have confined my consulting exclusively to medical offices and law offices. My consulting has covered hardware, software, networking, web sites as well the efficient integration of the computer system into the work environment. My business education and experience has proven invaluable in blending the computer system into the work place. Rather than simply setting up systems at the request of the client, I provide them with systems, ideas, and business practices which maximize the effectiveness of the computer system to the practice overall.

1/85 - 5/93
Business Computer Systems
Vice President & General Manager
I was one of five partners who owned a small group of Business Computer Stores. The five of us started the operation and eventually sold it to a nationwide chain of computer stores. My function was to manage the day to day operation. My responsibilities included overseeing the installation, repair, and training of networks, software, and hardware. There were numerous occasions on which I had to create detailed procedure and training manuals and materials for clients and classes we offered. I also wrote a variety of newspaper & magazine articles covering topics such as: How to purchase a computer system, Office networking, Computers as a management tool, etc... In addition, I gave numerous lectures and presentations to private, public, & government organizations.

9/85 - 6/97
Adjunct Instructor
I have taught hundreds of classes at many different colleges around the country. The range of classes covered virtually every area of computing, from software to hardware and from networking to the Internet. I have also taught the occasional non-computer class such as Math, Business, English, SAT preparation, Social Dance, etc.. I also wrote many of my own manuals for the computer classes.

7/93 - 9/95
American Red Cross
Onslow County, NC
Chairman, Board of Directors
My duties included overseeing the paid and volunteer staff members, writing grants & procedure manuals, managing all aspects of fund-raising activities, recruiting & interviewing volunteer workers, setting up a disaster preparedness program, insuring that all Red Cross goals are met in the community, creating budgets, insuring that all funds are used appropriately, meeting and coordinating with various public and local government agencies as well as many and varied members of the community, and I was ultimately responsible for all disaster relief during and after any disaster. In addition I gave hundreds of presentations to various clubs and organizations both inside and outside Onslow county.

8/93 - 9/95
WJNC Radio
Host
I hosted a computer talk show and a community activities talk show. Both of these were call-in shows. The computer talk show allowed listeners to call in and ask me questions from what software or hardware they should have bought to how they could fix a problem they were having with their computer. In a very short time the show became very popular and we kept needing to expand the time slot as well as the number of times per week it aired. The community activities talk show was set up as a forum for representatives of various community non-profit organizations to inform the public about upcoming events.

3/83 - 12/84
Dynabal
San Jose, CA
Production Manager
My primary responsibility was to oversee the production of PC computer controlled Wheel Balancers & Wheel Aligners. My other areas of responsibility were Product Service, Inventory Planning & Control, Test, Production Engineering, Shipping/Receiving, & vendor relations/negotiations. This particular position was easily my most successful in that when I started, the production of this equipment was running at approximately 65% productivity which means that the product was being produced at about 65% of what the production area was ideally designed to produce. At that rate they were passing approximately 90% through final test. Within a year after I started the production area was running at approximately 117% productivity which means that we were building the equipment about 17% faster than the production area was designed to under ideal conditions. We were also passing more than 99% through final test. This was really the first position in which I truly used the management skills I learned from my Masters degree education.

10/81 - 3/83
Modutek
San Jose, CA
Production Manager
My primary responsibility was to manage the production of equipment which manufactures Integrated Circuits for Intel and the IBM Personal Computers & compatibles. My other areas of responsibility were Product Service, Inventory Planning & Control, Test, Production Engineering, Shipping/Receiving, Vendor Relations and Negotiations, Long Range Production Planning and Company Computer System Planning. When I started, this company had no computer system. While there, I planned, set up, and implemented my first networking system which was used throughout the company.

5/80 - 10/81
Rockwell International
Los Angeles, CA
Systems Engineer
This was my first position after receiving my Bachelors degree in Engineering. While at Rockwell I worked in the Space Shuttle Cockpit Design Unit. The three projects I worked on while there were the removal of the pilot and co-pilot ejector seats, the overhead electronic panel, and the installation of the galley. All of my work was exclusively for the Discovery. As an added note, many people ask why the ejector seats were removed and the answer is quite simple; The ejector seats were, of course, on the pilot and co-pilot seats. The shuttles were going to begin taking passengers up who were seated in the deck below the cockpit control deck. It was rather bad P.R. to have ejector seats for the people flying the shuttle and none for the passengers.
